More Part-Time Positions & other job issues
Posted: 01 May 2006 12:34 PM
I guess I've given AppleOne the impression that I don't want to work at all, with
the jobs I keep turning down from them anymore.

The truth is, I DO want to work---though I've become settled with home life and it's hard to get into the groove, but I want to be independent and making a decent living.

But I feel bad right now because today I turned down a position from AppleOne for the umpteenth time. The reasons I've been doing this lately:

1. They've been bad to call me out on jobs that start TODAY--when I often have errands to run, am not feeling well, or something else gums up the works. I really appreciate a notice of at least 12 hours before an assignment so I can prepare for it.

2. They often call me out on jobs that are WAY the heck across town. The bus schedules and routes in my town really suck. I don't drive, and even if I did, I don't need to bring up the price of gas these days!

3. Almost every job is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Whatever happened to "NINE to five jobs" ???

Anyway, I wish AppleOne would do more part-time positions. I'd like to start part-time and THEN go into full-time once I get situated. Not to mention, I wish they'd let me know a day ahead about jobs, not call me that morning and expect me to drop whatever I'm doing and rush on down there. Unless the job is just down the street from where I live, fuhgeddabout it.

(Maybe I'm wrong, but if you think so---be honest, but be kind. Thanks! )

AppleOne will get a lot of ASAP orders from our clients. Typically, the AE will only have known about a job for 5 or 10 minutes before calling you. Obviously 12 hours notice would be great, but that doesn't always happen.

Of course, you never have to take any job.

9 to 5 jobs? The only place I've heard of 9 to 5 is in the Dolly Parton song. I've never heard about 9 to 5 jobs. Most jobs are 8 to 5 and then if I'm lucky I can get them to 7 to 3:30.

I "feel your pain" also, I ride the bus, and it takes much time, I want and need to work, luckily I currently work, but I want to do what I went to school for, and paid thousands of dollars for!
I agree with you, it takes time to find out how long it will take to get to a place, be patient, I know it's hard, but the right position will come along.
