We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounting Assistant to join our construction company in Portland, OR. This role will support the accounting team with daily financial tasks, including processing invoices, managing accounts payable and receivable, and assisting with payroll. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, experience in the construction industry, and proficiency with accounting software.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR), including invoice processing, vendor payments, and collections
Reconcile bank statements, credit card transactions, and general ledger accounts
Maintain accurate financial records and reports in compliance with company policies
Assist in payroll processing, including timekeeping and job cost allocation
Work closely with project managers to track job costs, budgets, and expenses
Prepare monthly financial reports and assist in financial audits
Ensure compliance with tax regulations, contracts, and industry standards
Support administrative tasks, such as filing documents, data entry, and responding to financial inquiries
Qualifications & Skills:
1-3 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or a related industry
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (preferred but not required)
Proficiency in QuickBooks, Sage, or other construction accounting software
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Office applications
Understanding of job costing, AIA billing, and lien waivers (preferred)
Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and communication skills
Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently
Familiarity with Oregon tax regulations and compliance (preferred)
