The benefits specialist is responsible for assisting with the administration of:
o All benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-and long-term disability, and 401(k) plan.
o Determines employee eligibility.
o Distributes all benefits enrollment materials.
o Works collaboratively with partners to ensure effective and efficient service to clients and employees.
o Enrolls employees with carriers and process life status changes.
o Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS.
o Performs quality checks of benefits-related data.
o Facilitate assisting employees regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes.
o Responds to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries.
o Responds to 401(k) inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts. Manages the annual catch-up contribution enrollment.
o Conduct open enrollment orientations at client worksites.
o Reconcile and approve carrier invoices for timely payment.
o Knowledge of ACA regulations and required reporting.
TEAM SUPPORT DUTIES:
o Answer inbound company calls.
o Provide back-up support to benefit staff as needed.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
o Associates degree in HR or related field preferred but experience and/or other training/certification may be substituted for the education.
o Working knowledge of computer skills such as Microsoft Office is a must.
o Willingness to learn and grow within your department.
Competencies Needed to be Successful in this role:
o Computer and navigation skills – recent experience using Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word and Excel, working in a shared drive, working in a payroll and or HRIS system.
o Outlook skills – categorizing, follow ups, reminders, creating folders, search, setting up an appointment/meeting, etc.
o Word skills – format and layout settings, mail merge, print labels, etc.
o Excel skills – formatting, sort/filter/find, basic formulas/autosum, etc.
o Customer service skills – properly communicate via email and telephone. Proper grammar and etiquette.
o Organizational and time management skills – being able to develop and maintain a system to keep self and workload organized for timely completion. Ex. using Outlook, developing checklists, creating calendars/folders, etc.
o Analytical skills – the ability to work with data, critical thinking, identifying, and solving problems.
o Collaboration skills – be dependable and responsible, able to work with others cohesively, able to give and take feedback.
