We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Commercial Real Estate Underwriter to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have strong financial analysis, risk management, and loan underwriting skills to assess and manage high-risk, distressed, or non-performing assets. As a CRE Underwriter, you will play a critical role in evaluating complex credit situations, mitigating risk, and ensuring the stability of the company’s portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
Loan Assessment & Analysis: Review, assess, and underwrite high-risk or distressed loans, including commercial real estate, corporate loans, and other non-performing assets.
Risk Management: Identify potential risks in special asset portfolios and provide recommendations to minimize exposure. Develop strategies for workout and resolution of problem loans.
Credit Evaluation: Perform detailed credit analysis, including financial statement reviews, cash flow analysis, and creditworthiness assessments, to determine loan viability and potential restructuring.
Portfolio Monitoring: Regularly monitor and track the performance of special asset loans to ensure compliance with established loan terms, and develop action plans when necessary.
Collaboration with Stakeholders: Work closely with the loan servicing, legal, and collections teams to address distressed assets and negotiate possible resolutions (loan modifications, forbearance, restructuring, etc.).
Reporting: Prepare detailed reports on special assets performance, trends, and key risk factors for internal stakeholders, management, and regulatory bodies.
Restructuring & Negotiation: Lead negotiations for troubled loans, including loan modifications, workout agreements, or potential liquidation strategies.
Compliance & Documentation: Ensure all underwriting activities comply with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal company policies. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. MBA or professional certifications (CFA, CCRA, etc.) preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial lending, underwriting, credit analysis, or risk management, with a focus on special assets, distressed loans, or workouts.
Technical Skills: Strong understanding of financial analysis, credit risk modeling, and loan underwriting processes. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and experience with underwriting or loan management software.
Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of commercial lending, credit policies, financial statement analysis, and bankruptcy processes.
Skills: Strong negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Attention to Detail: Exceptional ability to manage complex financial data and identify key risk factors.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in workout and distressed asset management.
Knowledge of commercial real estate lending.
Understanding of loan restructuring processes and legal frameworks around distressed assets.
