A well known Construction company is looking for a Controller!
This position combines key responsibilities from both the Accounting Manager and Controller roles, overseeing financial operations and accounting processes with a focus on the construction/solar energy industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong leadership background, deep expertise in job costing, WIP reporting, project-based accounting, and multi-state tax reporting. The role will involve managing accounting operations, ensuring compliance, optimizing financial processes, and providing strategic insights for decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
• Manage the preparation and accurate reporting of financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
• Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
• Prepare and analyze Work-in-Progress (WIP) reports, job cost analysis, and assist in preparing budgets, forecasts, and financial statements.
• Monitor and manage cash flow, ensuring adequate reserves, managing debt obligations, and forecasting future cash requirements to support business operations.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, federal, state, and local tax regulations, including sales and use tax reporting across multiple states.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors, tax advisors, and other third-party professionals.
• Oversee cash management, working capital, and financial analysis to support strategic decisions by the executive team.
• Lead and mentor accounting staff, fostering professional development and high performance.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to enhance operational efficiency.
• Supervise and optimize financial systems and software for improved reporting capabilities and data accuracy.
• Maintain and track fixed assets and depreciation schedules, recording purchases, disposals, and transfers of equipment or property.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within the construction/solar energy industry, with 3+ years in a leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP schedules, construction billing (AIA documents, lien waivers), and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
• Proficiency in accounting and construction management software (e.g., Sage 300, Procore, Viewpoint).
• Advanced knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Exceptional analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Proven experience in managing and mentoring accounting teams and working collaboratively with stakeholders.
• Familiarity with multi-state tax compliance and reporting.
This combined role requires a strategic thinker who can balance operational excellence with long-term financial goals while managing both the day-to-day and strategic financial aspects of a growing company.
