Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to provide administrative and legal support to our legal team. The ideal candidate will assist with case preparation, document management, research, and communication with clients and stakeholders, ensuring the smooth operation of the legal department or firm.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare, proofread, and format legal documents, such as contracts, pleadings, and correspondence.
Manage case files, ensuring accurate organization, filing, and retrieval of documents.
Conduct legal research to gather information, statutes, and precedents relevant to cases.
Schedule and coordinate meetings, court appearances, depositions, and other legal proceedings.
Communicate with clients, witnesses, and other parties to collect information or provide updates.
Maintain calendars for attorneys, tracking deadlines and court dates.
Assist with billing and timekeeping processes by tracking attorney hours and preparing invoices.
File legal documents with courts or government agencies, both electronically and in person.
Handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
Support the legal team in trial preparation, including organizing exhibits and creating summaries of evidence.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies or a related field is preferred.
Experience: 1–3 years of experience as a legal assistant, paralegal, or in a related administrative role is preferred.
Strong understanding of legal terminology, processes, and documentation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research tools (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw).
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Preferred Skills:
Certification from an accredited legal assistant or paralegal program is a plus.
Familiarity with case management software (e.g., Clio, MyCase).
Experience with e-filing systems and court procedures.
Knowledge of specific legal fields, such as corporate law, family law, or intellectual property, is advantageous.
Work Environment:
Office-based role with occasional travel to courthouses or other legal venues.
Requires the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
