The Medical Billing and Coding Specialist is responsible for managing the end-to-end medical billing and coding process. This role ensures accurate submission of claims to maximize reimbursement and minimize denials. The ideal candidate brings expertise in medical billing, coding, and insurance follow-up, with attention to detail, familiarity with coding software, and an understanding of industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Review, code, and process medical records using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with payer-specific guidelines.
Conduct audits on coding accuracy and billing submissions to maintain data quality.
Process claim submissions, adjustments, and resubmissions as needed, focusing on reducing rejection rates.
Resolve discrepancies, denials, and unpaid claims by coordinating directly with insurance providers, patients, and healthcare teams.
Stay current with coding changes, insurance regulations, and compliance requirements to reduce errors and improve billing efficiency.
Support training for billing and coding staff on coding updates, and company policies.
Qualifications:
Certification: CPC (Certified Professional Coder), CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), or equivalent certification required.
Technical Skills: Proficient in EMR and billing software (e.g., EPIC, Cerner, or other systems), Microsoft Office Suite, and coding software.
Knowledge: Understanding of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding; Medicare and Medicaid billing requirements; payer-specific guidelines; and HIPAA regulations.
Attention to Detail: Analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to identify and correct errors proactively.
Communication Skills: Effective written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with healthcare providers, insurers, and team members.
