Position Summary:
The Medical Intake Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring a smooth and efficient intake process for patients. This individual will be responsible for gathering patient information, verifying insurance, obtaining pre-authorizations, and ensuring that all necessary documentation is completed before patient appointments. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a passion for helping others, and the ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities:
-Take phone calls from patients and assist them with the intake process, ensuring all necessary information is collected and accurate.
-Obtain and verify patient demographic, insurance, and medical history information.
-Ensure all required documents, authorizations, and referrals are completed and filed appropriately.
-Coordinate with healthcare providers and insurance companies to obtain prior authorizations for procedures and treatments.
-Answer patient inquiries regarding the intake process, insurance coverage, and appointment scheduling.
-Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations at all times.
-Handle patient concerns and provide exceptional customer service throughout the intake process.
-Collaborate with medical staff and administrative teams to ensure seamless patient flow and timely access to care.
Qualifications:
-High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in healthcare administration or a related field is a plus.
-1-2 years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in patient intake or medical office administration.
-Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance verification, and prior authorization processes.
-Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
-Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
-Proficient in using electronic health records (EHR) and other healthcare management systems.
-Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with a patient-focused attitude.
