The Rig Technician will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment and machinery on an offshore or onshore drilling rig. This role involves supporting drilling operations, performing routine inspections, troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, and ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical background, be able to work in a team environment, and thrive in challenging, dynamic conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
• Operate, maintain, and repair drilling rig equipment, machinery, and systems, including pumps, motors, compressors, and hydraulic systems.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks, including inspections, lubrication, and testing to ensure equipment is functioning correctly.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, taking corrective action as needed to minimize downtime and ensure operational efficiency.
• Assist in the assembly, disassembly, and rigging of drilling equipment.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and company standards.
• Monitor drilling rig operations and equipment performance, identifying potential issues and recommending solutions to prevent failures or downtime.
• Adhere to safety procedures and ensure that the rig meets all safety and environmental standards.
• Respond to emergency situations promptly, ensuring the rig and crew remain safe and operational at all times.
• Collaborate with other rig personnel, including the driller, rig manager, and maintenance team, to ensure smooth rig operations.
• Participate in training programs to stay current with the latest industry practices, technologies, and safety protocols.
• Ensure that tools and equipment are maintained and organized for easy access and use during operations.
• Assist in the rigging up and rigging down of the drilling rig, including the setup and breakdown of equipment and machinery.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent (Technical or vocational training is a plus).
• Proven experience (5+ years) working as a rig technician or in a similar mechanical or maintenance role, preferably in the oil and gas or drilling industry.
• Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems knowledge.
• Experience with drilling rig equipment, including pumps, blowout preventers (BOPs), and winches.
• Understanding of safety protocols and best practices in a high-risk environment.
• Ability to work long hours and in challenging conditions, often in remote or offshore locations.
• Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a wide variety of machinery and equipment.
• Good physical condition and the ability to lift heavy objects and work in confined spaces.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
