Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Senior Accountant to oversee and manage the company’s accounting operations. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in maintaining the financial integrity of our organization by ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with industry regulations, and effective budgeting and forecasting. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including operations, regulatory, and senior management, to support strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the day-to-day accounting functions, including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing.
Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and regulatory filings.
Ensure compliance with all accounting regulations, industry standards, and internal control procedures.
Assist in the preparation and management of the annual budget and quarterly forecasts, providing detailed financial analysis and variance reporting.
Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring the timely completion of financial statements and regulatory reports.
Prepare and file utility-specific reports (e.g., regulatory filings, cost of service analysis, rate filings) in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Reconcile financial accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely and efficient manner.
Conduct internal audits and ensure the maintenance of proper accounting records for accurate reporting.
Coordinate and collaborate with external auditors during the audit process.
Mentor and provide guidance to junior accounting staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
Monitor changes in industry regulations and tax laws that may impact accounting processes and reporting.
Assist with financial modeling and analysis related to utility rate setting and cost recovery strategies.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory role.
Prior experience in the utility industry or with utility accounting practices is strongly preferred.
In-depth knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP), regulatory requirements, and financial reporting standards applicable to the utility sector.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Oracle, SAP, QuickBooks) and advanced Excel skills.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex financial data.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly and concisely to non-financial stakeholders.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
