Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Utilities Electrical Engineer to join our team in Charlotte, NC. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the design, installation, integration, configuration, diagnosis, security, and commissioning of Industrial Control Systems (ICS) in water and wastewater treatment and distribution systems. You will play a key part in ensuring the integrity and security of ICS environments, providing expertise in electrical, instrumentation, and control systems. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate systems and develop solutions for ongoing improvements. This position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of technical and hands-on projects in a dynamic and rewarding environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Commissioning: Design, program, and commission SCADA-based automated control systems for water and wastewater systems.
System Support: Provide technical support for control systems, instrumentation, motor control equipment, power distribution, and SCADA systems. Troubleshoot issues and collaborate with operations staff to resolve problems.
Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process control improvements and implement enhancements by working with internal stakeholders.
Project Support: Provide technical expertise during the design, construction, and startup phases of assigned capital infrastructure projects. Attend project meetings and review design documentation.
Team Coordination: Coordinate efforts with electrical and instrumentation staff, whether internal or contracted, to ensure project timelines and objectives are met.
Training & Documentation: Assist in commissioning new equipment, train plant operations and maintenance staff, and maintain detailed technical documentation and CAD electrical drawings.
Software & Hardware Maintenance: Manage and maintain SCADA systems, PLCs, and associated software applications. Modify code for PLCs, SCADA, and HMI applications as required.
Purchasing & Procurement: Participate in procurement activities related to equipment and services needed for ongoing projects.
Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety standards, operational guidelines, and environmental regulations while working in an industrial setting.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
Experience: At least 3 years of related work experience in control systems, automation, or utilities engineering. Experience with relevant software (e.g., Wonderware, Ignition, Modicon PLCs, AutomationDirect PLCs) is highly preferred.
Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver’s license required. Ability to obtain a City driving permit.
Knowledge & Skills:
Proficient in Modicon and AutomationDirect PLCs, Wonderware, and Ignition software.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Familiarity with industrial environments, including working with chemicals, solvents, and dust.
Ability to read and create technical documentation and CAD electrical drawings.
Knowledge of process control systems, instrumentation, and SCADA systems.
Capable of working effectively with cross-functional teams.
