Our client specializing in metal recycling, sales, and fabrication services is looking to hire a Yard Supervisor.
Job Summary:
The Yard Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the recycling yard, ensuring the safe and efficient processing of scrap metal materials. This position requires managing a team, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations while meeting company production goals. The Yard Supervisor will also work closely with other departments to ensure a smooth flow of materials and maintain optimal yard organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervision & Leadership:
Supervise and lead a team of yard workers, including training, assigning tasks, and ensuring productivity.
Monitor worker performance, provide feedback, and ensure high-quality work standards are met.
Enforce company policies and procedures, ensuring safety and operational efficiency in the yard.
Safety & Compliance:
Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, safety guidelines, and company protocols to create a safe work environment.
Conduct regular safety meetings and training sessions for yard employees.
Monitor the yard for any hazards and resolve safety issues immediately.
Yard Operations:
Oversee the sorting, processing, and storage of scrap metal and materials.
Ensure efficient use of equipment, including cranes, forklifts, and other heavy machinery, and manage maintenance schedules.
Maintain yard organization, ensuring clear pathways for vehicles and equipment.
Inventory & Quality Control:
Manage inventory control of scrap metal, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting.
Coordinate with the purchasing team to verify incoming materials and ensure proper classification and grading of scrap metal.
Ensure quality standards are maintained throughout the processing of metal materials.
Customer Service & Coordination:
Interact with customers delivering scrap metal, ensuring a positive experience and proper documentation.
Work with the logistics team to coordinate deliveries and shipments of scrap materials.
Assist in resolving any customer complaints or issues related to metal recycling services.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of yard operations, employee attendance, and inventory levels.
Prepare daily, weekly, or monthly reports on yard operations, including productivity, safety incidents, and materials processed.
Ensure proper documentation of metal recycling transactions as per regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (required); a degree in business or operations management is a plus.
3+ years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably in the recycling or scrap metal industry.
Knowledge of metal recycling processes, equipment, and OSHA safety standards.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage a diverse team.
