We are looking for a counselor/college navigator who will be able to manage a case load of foster youth college students. Must have experience with working with youth and a 4 year degree in a relevant field.
The college navigator will be responsible for conducting group or individual information sessions for prospective program youth. Facilitating intake and assessment process for all prospective program youth. Meeting with program students regularly to update on progress, troubleshoot challenges, identify resources & navigate systems (child welfare, financial aid, etc.), & provide crisis/emergency management as needed. Assist students with building an attachment to campus-based support programs including but not limited to key departments, financial aid, and other programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. 2+ years’ experience in related work and a 4 year degree BA Degree in Education, Social Work, Public Administration, or related field,
2. Experience working with foster youth
3. Familiarity with DCFS, DPSS, financial aid, housing resources is a plus,
4. Knowledge and proven practice of trauma-informed care and strength-based
approach to youth development,
5. Reliable, flexible team player who works well with minimal supervision, who
has a good work ethic, and an ability to set and maintain personal boundaries,
6. Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, and to meet
deadlines,
7. Demonstrated knowledge of community resources,
8. Reliable transportation: valid driver's license, and car insurance as required by
law, as appropriate,
9. Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
