Short Description:

The Terminal Manager is responsible for overseeing all daily operations of a transportation terminal facility, ensuring efficient loading, unloading, and movement of cargo or passengers while maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards. This role requires strong leadership skills to supervise terminal staff, coordinate with drivers, and optimize resource allocation to meet service requirements and business objectives. The Terminal Manager serves as the primary point of contact for resolving operational issues, managing relationships with clients, and implementing process improvements to enhance terminal efficiency and profitability. The position demands a detail-oriented professional who can balance multiple priorities while ensuring high standards of customer service, safety, and operational excellence.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate all terminal activities including loading, unloading, storage, and transportation of goods or passengers
  • Develop and implement operational plans, schedules, and procedures to optimize terminal efficiency and resource utilization
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards
  • Manage terminal staff including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations
  • Oversee maintenance of terminal facilities, equipment, and vehicles to ensure operational readiness
  • Track and analyze key performance metrics to identify improvement opportunities and implement corrective actions
  • Coordinate with dispatchers, drivers, and other departments to ensure smooth operations and timely deliveries
  • Develop and manage terminal operating budgets, controlling expenses while meeting service requirements
  • Handle customer inquiries, resolve service issues, and maintain positive client relationships
  • Prepare and submit regular operational reports to upper management

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in transportation, logistics, or terminal operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS), warehouse management software, and Microsoft Office suite
  • Certifications: Transportation-specific certifications such as CTL (Certified in Transportation and Logistics) or CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional) preferred
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to effectively manage, motivate, and develop a diverse team in a fast-paced environment
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and decision-making abilities to quickly resolve operational challenges and implement process improvements
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with staff, customers, vendors, and management
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to occasionally work in warehouse/terminal environments with moderate physical demands
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of DOT, FMCSA, and local compliance regulations
