A Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and management of a company’s vehicle fleet, ensuring efficiency, safety, and compliance with regulations. Their duties include scheduling regular maintenance, managing fuel consumption, tracking vehicle usage, and coordinating repairs. Fleet Managers also monitor costs, optimize routes, and ensure proper documentation for all vehicles, including insurance and registration. Strong organizational skills, knowledge of logistics, and attention to detail are essential for success in this role, as they ensure the smooth and cost-effective operation of the fleet.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and efficiency of a company’s fleet of vehicles.
  • Develop and implement fleet policies, procedures, and safety protocols to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Monitor vehicle usage, fuel consumption, and operational costs to optimize efficiency.
  • Schedule and coordinate regular vehicle maintenance, inspections, and repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors, leasing companies, and maintenance service providers.
  • Manage vehicle procurement, registration, and disposal to align with company needs and budget.
  • Track driver performance, provide training, and enforce safety guidelines to ensure compliance.
  • Utilize fleet management software to analyze data, generate reports, and improve operational performance.
  • Ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies.
  • Develop strategies to reduce fuel costs, extend vehicle lifespan, and improve overall fleet efficiency.

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in logistics, business administration, supply chain management, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: Proven experience in fleet management, logistics, or transportation operations.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in fleet management software, GPS tracking systems, and Microsoft Office.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of DOT regulations, safety standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Budgeting & Cost Control: Ability to manage budgets, control expenses, and negotiate cost-effective solutions.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and decision-making skills to handle fleet-related challenges efficiently.
  • Leadership: Experience in managing and training drivers, mechanics, and logistics personnel.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with teams, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
