Short Description:

A Picker/Packer is responsible for selecting and packing products for shipment in a warehouse or distribution center. They pick items from inventory based on customer orders, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in fulfilling orders. Pickers/Packers then carefully pack the items to prevent damage during transit, label packages, and prepare them for shipment. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment are essential for success in this role.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Load materials and products into package processing equipment.
  • Clean containers, materials, supplies, or work areas, using cleaning solutions and hand tools.
  • Record product, packaging, and order information on specified forms and records.
  • Examine and inspect containers, materials, and products to ensure that packing specifications are met.
  • Measure, weigh, and count products and materials.
  • Mark and label containers, container tags, or products using marking tools.
  • Place or pour products or materials into containers using hand tools and equipment, or fill containers from spouts or chutes.
  • Remove completed or defective products or materials, placing them on moving equipment such as conveyors or in specified areas such as loading docks.
  • Transport packages to customers' vehicles.
  • Use hand tools to assemble, line, and pad cartons, crates, and containers.

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Physical Stamina: Ability to lift, carry, and move packages and products weighing up to 50 pounds or more, often for extended periods of time.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail to ensure that the correct items are picked, packed, and prepared for shipment without errors.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to organize and prioritize tasks efficiently, ensuring timely completion of orders and adherence to company deadlines.
  • Manual Dexterity: Comfortable with repetitive tasks that require manual handling and assembly, such as packing boxes, labeling, and using equipment like pallet jacks or forklifts.
  • Basic Math and Computer Skills: Familiarity with basic math for counting inventory, and ability to use warehouse management systems (WMS) or scanning devices for order processing.
  • Teamwork and Communication: Effective collaboration with team members, supervisors, and other departments to ensure smooth operations and resolve issues.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent: A high school diploma or GED is typically required, with additional on-the-job training provided.
  • Experience in a Warehouse or Distribution Setting (Preferred): Previous experience in a warehouse, fulfillment center, or distribution environment is preferred but not always required.
