Short Description:

A Health Monitor is responsible for observing and assessing the health and well-being of individuals, often in clinical or wellness settings. They track vital signs, collect and record patient data, and monitor for any changes that may require medical attention. Health Monitors may assist with administering basic health interventions and support patients in maintaining health and hygiene routines. Strong communication and attention to detail are essential, as well as the ability to respond to health-related issues effectively. This role may involve working closely with healthcare professionals to report findings and coordinate care plans.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Regularly track and record patient vital signs, medical history, and other relevant health data.
  • Perform initial assessments and screenings to gather information on patient health status.
  • Educate patients on wellness practices, disease prevention, and health management strategies.
  • Document patient interactions, observations, and health status updates accurately and in compliance with regulations.
  • Communicate patient progress and findings with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare team members.
  • Collect data and assist with patient follow-up for clinical trials and research projects.
  • Operate medical equipment, such as heart rate monitors, blood pressure cuffs, and glucose meters, to collect data.
  • Notify healthcare professionals promptly if a patient’s condition shows significant changes or concerns.
  • Help create and implement patient care plans based on health monitoring results.
  • Maintain a safe and comfortable environment for patients during monitoring and assessments.

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Educational Background: High school diploma required; postsecondary training or certification in health monitoring, nursing, or related fields is preferred.
  • Medical Knowledge: Understanding of basic medical terminology, vital signs, and health monitoring techniques.
  • Certification: CPR and First Aid certification may be required; certifications in health monitoring or medical assisting can be an advantage.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using health monitoring equipment and technology, as well as basic computer skills for record-keeping.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to accurately record health data and observe subtle changes in patient conditions.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with patients and coordinate with healthcare teams.
  • Empathy and Patient Care: Compassionate approach to patient care, ensuring comfort and understanding during health assessments.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage patient information and maintain orderly records and reports.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Capacity to identify issues with patient health data and determine the appropriate actions to take.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to remain on feet for long periods and handle physical tasks associated with patient monitoring.
