Short Description:

A Logistics Coordinator is responsible for managing and overseeing the movement of goods and materials within a company. They coordinate shipments, track inventory, and ensure timely delivery by collaborating with suppliers, vendors, and transportation providers. This role involves organizing logistics schedules, resolving issues related to shipping and delivery, and maintaining accurate records of shipments. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively are essential for success in this position.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Examine shipment contents and compare with records such as manifests, invoices, or orders to verify accuracy.
  • Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, damages, or discrepancies, for reporting, accounting, or recordkeeping purposes.
  • Prepare documents, such as work orders, bills of lading, or shipping orders, to route materials.
  • Confer or correspond with establishment representatives to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, or nonconformance to specifications.
  • Pack, seal, label, or affix postage to prepare materials for shipping using hand tools, power tools, or postage meters.
  • Contact carrier representatives to make arrangements or to issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials.
  • Deliver or route materials to departments using handtruck, conveyor, or sorting bins.
  • Requisition and store shipping materials and supplies to maintain inventory of stock.
  • Determine shipping methods, routes, or rates for materials to be shipped.
  • Compute amounts, such as space available, shipping, storage, or demurrage charges, using a computer or price list.

 

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain coordination is highly desirable.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in logistics software, transportation management systems (TMS), and Microsoft Office.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of shipping regulations, customs procedures, and industry compliance standards.
  • Organization & Time Management: Ability to manage multiple shipments, schedules, and deadlines efficiently.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot supply chain issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with suppliers, carriers, and internal teams.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong focus on accuracy in tracking shipments, processing documentation, and managing logistics data.
